THREE NEW WORKS COMPLETED
It has been a busy time of late and also a productive time. October 2014, saw the premiere of a new duet for Euphonium soloist, Cornet soloist and band - 'How majestic is your name', which features that song combined with 'How excellent is your name'. This was commissioned by Belfast Temple Young People's Band Leader, David Magookin to mark the 'graduation' of YP band members Hannah Murray and Daniel Clarke. The music featured as part of the retirement of YPBL Magookin who served in this capacity at Belfast Temple Salvation Army for 18 years. More updates on this music to follow...
In November 2014, new music was delivered to the Melbourne Staff Band who celebrate their 125th anniversary in 2015. 'All the Nations (Psalm 86:9)' will be featured in the band's repertoire in a year that includes special anniversary events, a tour of Switzerland and England that culminates at the O2 Arena, London as part of the 'Boundless' international congress celebrating the 150th anniversary of The Salvation Army worldwide.
In February 2015, Roger also completed work on a newly commissioned work for internationally renowned virtuoso trombonist, Brett Baker. The music has been commissioned as part of a recording project of solos for trombone and band. We understand that the majority of the CD's proposed tracks are newly commissioned solos that will receive their respective premiere recordings from Brett and the outstanding Gloucester-based, Flowers Band. More updates on this music to follow...

NEW MARCH PREMIERED
On Saturday October 26, the South Barwon Band of The Salvation Army Australia (Bandmaster John Collinson), gave the world première of a new march entitled South West Spirit. In 1983, the corps fellowship relocated to the South Barwon site from Geelong West where the band has its origins. The title of the march therefore reflects the band's heritage by including aspects from the name of each location. This new work was featured as part of the band’s 90th anniversary celebrations.
Roger has a family connection to the band in that both of his parents grew up in the fellowship of the Geelong West Corps and his father, both grandfathers, uncle and a great grandfather were all, at one time or another, members of the band. As such, it was an especial privilege to write music for this talented group of musicians.
The march features a chorus that has been popular in the corps called I'll be His disciple today written by the then Corps Sergeant Major, Frank Barker in 1979. Frank's mother, Susie Barker, will be known to many as the composer of the song At thy feet I bow adoring. The Salvation Army chorus Stand up and shout is another tune included in the march which was a well-loved chorus in the Geelong West days. Read more, preview the score and parts and hear an audio sample here.

PREMIERE PERFORMANCE OF 'MY HOPE' BY ENFIELD CITADEL BAND
It's rare that one has the opportunity to hear a first performance live, but that was the unique privilege Roger had last month when My Hope was premiered by The Salvation Army's Enfield Citadel Band (ECB).
For 67 years ECB has held an annual festival on the eve of the National Brass Band Championships that are held in the august surroundings of the Royal Albert Hall, London. Congratulations to Bandmaster Jonathan Corry and the band who gave an inspired performance in the beautiful Amaryllis Fleming Hall, Royal College of Music, London (pictured right). ECB's guest artist this year was trombone virtuoso Brett Baker. We are delighted to report that Roger's new trombone feature Jericho was also featured by Brett, the ECB trombone section: Andrew Justice; Ben Horton; and Stuart Horton and band which was specially re-scored for four trombones for this occasion.

NEW RECORDING BY BRETT BAKER AND ENFIELD CITADEL BAND FEATURES TROMBONE SOLO 'REJOICE'
As an update to an earlier report (news item January 2013), we are delighted to learn that trombone virtuoso Brett Baker and Enfield Citadel Band’s new CD entitled Novus Vox: Song of Joy, which features Rejoice, has been released. It is now available directly and exclusively from Brett on his website and will be officially launched at the Enfield Citadel Band’s annual Pre-Contest Festival at the Royal College of Music, London on Friday, October 11 where it will also be available for purchase.
Prior to the release rogertriggmusic.com spoke exclusively to Brett about this project. This unique and historic recording is, as far as we and Brett are aware, the first time a solo artist outside of The Salvation Army (SA) has made a recording comprised solely of compositions by Salvationist composers (or those with strong SA connections).
When asked about his reasons for making this recording, Brett commented:
“…This is part of my DMA studies at Salford University, the reason it is called Novus Vox (New Voice) is I wanted to celebrate and encourage the talented composers in the SA and push their music and mission and testimony to a wider audience than just that of SA bands, and just brass bands. I am a big fan of SA music; its deep meaning and passion and commitment so wanted to share this with others…”
We wish Brett every success with this latest innovative release. We also share Brett's hope that this recording of music, with a soul-saving message, might reach a wider audience.
See below for the recording's track listing:

NEW MUSIC COMPLETED: 'STRONG TO SAVE'
July update
Video of the premiere performance of 'Strong to Save' has been added to the site. Click here to view this video and browse other music videos from Roger Trigg Music (video courtesy of Scott Lingard).
Roger has recently completed 'Strong to Save', a commission for Bandmaster Ken Waterworth and the Melbourne Staff Band (MSB), which will receive its premiere performance on June 30 at Canberra Girls' Grammar School. The music was written as part of the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the sinking of the Japanese merchant ship 'Montevideo Maru' during WWII which claimed the lives of over 1,000 Australian military personnel, among them 16 Salvation Army bandsmen.

Band and drums of the 2/22nd Battalion Band (B/M Arthur Gullidge), AIF taken at Trawool (Australia) camp, 1940 prior to departing for Rabaul, Papua New Guinea.
These bandsmen were members of the 2/22nd Battalion Band and the Bandmaster was Arthur Gullidge, whose music (much of it published by The Salvation Army) will be familiar to many. Roger's grandfather, Wilfred Trigg (pictured left) was Deputy Bandmaster of the band. The weekend's events in Canberra include the unveiling of a permanent memorial to those who perished. It is a privilege to be asked to write music to mark this occasion and the composition has special significance for Roger.
The music is, in essence, a three verse hymn tune arrangement on Melita to which the words by William Whiting, 'Eternal Father, strong to save...' are sung.
